Richard Honey is a Founding Partner and manages the day-to-day activities of Msasa Capital and leads client engagements. Prior to founding Msasa Capital, Richard worked with Investec Asset Management (now Ninety One Ltd), which he joined in 2010 on returning home to Africa from the UK. At Investec, he was responsible for the Zimbabwe Recapitalisation Fund and was also involved in the origination, evaluation and monitoring of investment transactions for other African investment strategies including public equity, private equity and credit. Previously, Richard was a founder of ETV Capital, a specialist pan-European finance provider, where he served as the head of the UK and as a member of the credit committee. Richard and his partners undertook two separate management buyouts during his time at ETV Capital. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Cape Town and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is married and has three children.
Heinrich von Pezold is a Founding Partner and focuses on the strategic elements of transactions and business development for Msasa Capital. Alongside his role at Msasa Capital, Heinrich was a founder of Rift Valley Corporation, one of the largest agro-industrial groups in southern Africa. He is also Chairman of Forrester Estate, a large integrated farming enterprise, and manages other African investments on behalf of his family, as well as the family’s Austrian business. He holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor Degree from City University, London. He is married and has two children.
Ronald Makoni is an Advisor to Msasa Capital. Ronald joined Msasa Capital in 2016 as an Analyst and rose to the position of Partner before re-locating to Mauritius. Ronald continues to assist Msasa Capital in various engagements and provides accounting, taxation and corporate finance input. He is a Chartered Accountant (Zimbabwe) and prior to working at Msasa Capital, he trained and worked at AMG Global Chartered Accountants where he gained experience in accounting, auditing, taxation and IT consultancy. He holds a degree and post graduate diplomas in accounting sciences from UNISA among other various professional certificates.
Libalele (Lee) is the Associate Director at Msasa Capital. Prior to working at Msasa Capital, Lee worked in audit at EY (UK), finance and investment banking at Stanbic (Zimbabwe), and investment management at Citi Private Bank (US) and Nurture Capital Agri Holdings (Zimbabwe). He holds an MSc in Behavioural Economics from the University of Exeter (UK). Additionally, Lee was awarded a PGC in International Business from the University of Chester (UK) and holds an Investment Foundations certificate from the CFA Institute. At Msasa Capital, Lee serves as a liaison between the Partners and the Analysts, managing internal and external relationships. Additionally, he assists the Partners with business and client strategy and leads various projects and transactions.
Tatenda is an Analyst and the Financial Controller at Msasa Capital. Prior to working at Msasa Capital, Tatenda did his training with an accounting firm, which he joined in 2015. Tatenda specialises in auditing, financial accounting and tax and regulatory compliance. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (BCOMPT) from UNISA, and he is currently studying towards an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification. He is also a member of the Zimbabwe Institute of Tax Accountants (ZITA). At Msasa Capital, Tatenda is responsible for various internal and external tax and regulatory compliance, as well as some client and analytical work. He is also responsible for other administrative duties.
Byron is an Analyst at Msasa Capital. Before joining Msasa Capital, he served as a Data Analyst at Nurture Capital Agri-Holdings for five years. In this role, he was instrumental in the development of a debt instrument that was awarded Prescribed Asset Status by IPEC and led the monitoring and evaluation of an EU-funded project focused on educating emerging commercial farmers in Zimbabwe. He holds a BSc in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics from the University of Pretoria and an MSc in Applied Statistics from the University of Zimbabwe. Additionally, Byron is a student member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa. Since then, he has earned certifications by CFI as a Financial Modelling & Valuation Analyst (FMVA) and Business Intelligence & Data Analyst (BIDA). At Msasa Capital, Byron is responsible for various analytical and modelling work as well as managing the internal macroeconomic database.
Cristina is an Analyst at Msasa Capital. As a high school student, she studied Accounts, Business Studies and Mathematics at St. John’s College (Zimbabwe). Fresh out of school, she joined Msasa Capital as a Trainee in January 2023 before quickly being promoted to an Analyst. At Msasa Capital, Cristina is responsible for various analytical and modelling work, as well as some administrative duties. She is the People and Team Development Champion of the business.
